PADI Cavern Diver SpecialityIf you dive within the light zone of a cave, the area near the cave entrance where natural light is always visible, you’re cavern diving.

Cavern diving is defined as any dive conducted within the light zone of a cave. Scuba diving in Ko Lanta, Thailand is ideal for this programme with its famous Cathedral and Chimney Caverns at top dive site Ko Haa.

The light zone is the area near the entrance of the cave where you can see natural light at all times.

During this course you’ll learn to use equipment and procedures that allow you to explore such areas safely.

This is a challenging and very exciting course that includes four training dives over at least two days.

What will I Learn during the PADI Cavern Diver Specialty Course?

Cavern Diver Surfacing in Cathedral Ko Haa, Ko Lanta, ThailandYou’ll go on four dives during the PADI Cavern Dive programme. During your first dive (which is conducted in open water and not in a cavern), you’ll practice the use of lines and reels and emergency procedures.

The final three dives are conducted in the cavern environment. Your actual penetration-training dives are limited to within the light zone and within 40 metres from the surface (vertical and horizontal distance included).

Cavern DiverThe programme covers the knowledge and techniques of cavern diving and describes the dangers involved with cave diving (this is not a cave diving course).

Topics covered in the course include:

  • Cavern navigation and line protocols
  • Depth and distant limits for cavern diving
  • Planning, organization, techniques, problems and hazards of cavern diving
  • Special equipment use, such as lights, guidelines, reels and redundant breathing systems
  • Air sharing, disorientation, silting, line problems and other emergency procedures specific to cavern diving
  • Proper body position and buoyancy control, and air-consumption management
  • Silt prevention, buoyancy control, air management and emergency procedures
  • Line entanglement and breakage, disorientation from permanent lines and emergency situations unique to cavern diving
  • Who can participate in the PADI Cavern Diver Specialty Course?

    Cavern Divers in Ko Kaa Cathedral, Ko LantaIf you’re aged 18+ and have already completed the PADI Advanced Course (or equivalent), in general good health and fitness, and are not suffering from a cold or ear infection, you should be eligible to become a certified PADI Cavern Diver.

    How often do you run PADI Cavern Diver Courses?

    Courses start every day, at a time to suit you. You can book now, or come in to see see us while you’re on holiday in Ko Lanta. We offer free transfers to and from your resort in Ko Lanta for any of our dive courses or daily dive trips.

    What languages do you teach in?

    We run PADI Cavern Diver Courses in English, German, Swedish and French. We run semi-supported courses in Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Spanish, Italian, Dutch and Thai. Please let us know if you require course materials in another language and we will order them for you.

    How much does it cost?

    Cavern Divers at Ko Kaa Cathedral, Ko LantaThe PADI Cavern Diver Course costs 13,400 THB. At Scubafish, all our scuba certification courses include manuals and free scuba diving equipment rental.

    There may be a fuel surcharge to visit some of the further away dive sites if you choose to dive these sites during your course.

    In addition, we teach all of our diver level courses in small groups to ensure that you receive the attention that you deserve.

    On the dive boats, we supply breakfast, lunch, drinking water, soft drinks and fruit. We also provide a selection of fruit juices and towels on each trip.

    How many people are in each group?

    We keep group sizes small to ensure you receive maximum benefit from your tuition (maximum 4 students per Instructor). This also minimises negative impact on the reefs. Our emphasis is on safety, fun and personal service within a relaxed and stress-free environment.
