awarded Project AWARE Go ECO status
Scubafish has been awarded the Project AWARE Go ECO status in recognition of the environmentally friendly dive practises we follow.
The main objective of Go ECO is for dive centres to minimise their impact on the aquatic ecosystem whilst contributing to environmental, economic and cultural conservation. Dive centres are required to meet best practice environmental guidelines and commit to the Project AWARE Go ECO philosophy.
“SCUBAFISH is delighted to be awarded with the Project AWARE Go ECO Operator status for 2007. As a Go ECO Operator we are committed to providing dive experiences that enhance visitor awareness, appreciation and understanding of the local aquatic environment,” said Saffron Kiddy – Dive Centre Manager.
Joanne Marston, Manager, of Project AWARE Asia Pacific added, “We are pleased to recognise SCUBAFISH as a Go ECO Operator. We look forward to working with them to implement environmental best practices and educate tourists about how they can travel responsibly.”
Go ECO Operators also demonstrate a commitment to conservation and pledge to follow the Go ECO Operator guidelines.
The PADI system of diver education is based on progressive training that introduces skills, safety related information and local environmental knowledge to students in stages. PADI courses are student-centred and provide for maximum practise and application.
Students learn the basics through independent study and then are guided through additional development by their instructors. The goal is to get students in the water as soon as possible and provide them with instruction necessary to gain confidence in their diving abilities.
All PADI programs, fall under strict educational standards to maintain worldwide consistency and quality.
With thousands of members and millions of divers, PADI-sponsored programs are becoming a growing force in the worldwide effort to preserve the underwater environment. Project AWARE (Aquatic World Awareness, Responsibility and Education) encompasses PADI’s environmental awareness and protection philosophy. Through their training, PADI divers learn the importance of protecting fragile aquatic ecosystems and are encouraged to become involved in preservation efforts.
